Pricing online coaching
from your hours up

Price from the time a client takes you. Other coaches' rates are a check, not a starting point.

Many coaches pick a price by looking at other coaches. Start with your own week instead.

Count the hours

For one client, add up your time in a month.

  • Writing and adjusting the programme.
  • Reading check-ins and replying.
  • Reviewing videos.
  • Calls, messages and admin.

Track it for four weeks. Your first guess will be low.

Set a floor

Pick the hourly rate you need. Multiply it by the hours per client per month. That is your floor.

Example with made-up numbers: 3 hours at £30 an hour is a £90 floor. Use your own figures.

Add your costs

Software, insurance, accounting and payment fees come out of what you charge. Share them across your clients and add them to the floor.

Choose a structure

  • Monthly fee, cancel any time. Simple, and the client can leave at any point.
  • Fixed term, such as twelve weeks. It gives you time to show results.
  • Tiers by contact, such as programme only, programme with weekly review, or programme with calls.

Build tiers around how much of your time each one uses.

Check the market last

Look at what coaches with your qualifications and results charge. If your floor is above them, cut your hours per client. Do not cut your rate below the floor.

Check tax and rules

Ask an accountant, or read gov.uk, about VAT registration, self-employed tax and your insurance cover. Thresholds change.

Review twice a year

Raise prices for new clients first. Give existing clients notice before any change.

Common questions

How much should an online coach charge in the UK?

There is no single figure. Count your hours per client, set an hourly rate and build up from that floor.

Should I charge monthly or for a fixed block?

A monthly fee with cancellation at any time is simplest. A fixed term gives you time to show results.

When should I raise my prices?

Raise them for new clients first. Give existing clients notice before a change.
